Slithering Of The Snake

When the warm weather of summer arrives, there is one thing that you need to look for in your yard. A snake or even two or three might be seen throughout the summer months as they begin exploring and coming out from their winter retreats. Although there are several snakes that you should avoid and kill if possible, such as a copperhead or a cottonmouth, there are a few snakes that are beneficial to have around the home. A king snake will eat mice and other small rodents, keeping them from getting into your house. This kind of snake will also keep venomous snakes away, such as the copperhead.

Snakes are found on every continent except for Antarctica simply because it’s too cold for snakes to live there. There are over 3,000 different species of snakes in the world. More snakes are found in warmer climates, such as Africa or Australia because they can survive easier and for a longer time thanks to the abundant food supply. A snake doesn’t have a chin. It can unhinge its jaw in order to consume large prey if needed. Most snakes hunt alone, but there are snakes that hunt as a pack, such as sea kraits and other snakes that live in water.
