How many letters does the Hawaiian alphabet have?

One pf the shortest alphabets in the world is the Hawaiian alphabet. In Hawaiian it is called “piapa”.
It is a variety of the Roman alphabet created in the 19th century and used to write the Hawaiian language.The language was an oral tradition, nut only until the 19th century, when U.S missionaries came to Hawaii. They created a written form oh the Hawaiian alphabet, because the the language was still only spoken.
The alphabet contains 12 letters: 5 vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and 7 consonants (h, k, l, m, n, p, w). To simplify pronunciation, sound consonants as in English and break up words so they are easy to say e.g., Waianapanapa sounds like Wai-a-napa-napa.
There are 162 possible syllables in Hawaiian, the fewest of any language.
