As far as low-budget films go, “Halloween” is probably one that tops the list. John Carpenter didn’t have a lot of money to work with when he created the film. However, it’s one of the most successful horror movies that has been made. There wasn’t enough money for the actors to get costumes or dressy outfits, so they had to wear their own clothes. This seems to make the teens in the movie appear a bit more realistic since they aren’t wearing clothes that they would only have for one or two scenes.
Another aspect to consider that gives away just how little money there was available for the film is that John Carpenter was the voice of Annie’s boyfriend on the phone. Most of the movie was filmed in a few days because there wasn’t enough money to work with to drag filming out for weeks. If you pay attention to the movie, you can see one of the members of the camera crew smoking behind a bush as Laurie and her friends walk on the sidewalk. Instead of using multiple cameras, actors would stand still while the cameraman would quickly pull away from the scene so that it would appear as though there were different cameras used.
