Ralph Lauren (born on 1939, in New York City) is a famous American fashion designer, known throughout the world for his polo shirts and the creation of American lifestyle’s fashion image. No wonder, that his own name “Ralph Lauren” is a worldwide brand, but the bearer of this nice sounding name actually doesn’t like it. When he was asked by the Vanity Fair magazine what are his favorite names he said that the name “Ralph” is definitely not in his top list.
But it’s not only about the name. Ralph Lauren started his career in a company, producing ties for men. Being inspired by his work, one day he decided to open his own fashion business. But then he came across a question how to name his company. This was the exact time, when he and his brother changed their surnames from Lifshitz (jewish surname) to Lauren. Also, Ralph had a confession during Oprah’s show, saying that as a child his friends always laughed at him for having such a strange and hardly pronounceable surname, and that’s the main reason for changing it.
Whatever is the reason for name-changing, let’s admit that “Ralph Lauren” sounds much more exquisite than “Ralph Lifshitz”.
With his technical background, he's responsible for pretty much everything else involved in keeping this blog running (aside from writing).
