A Silent Type Of Cancer

Although there are several types of cancer that a person might have at some point in life, oral cancer is one that is often not talked about or discovered until it has invaded the jawbone, tongue, and other areas of the mouth. Smoking and using other tobacco products are associated with a higher risk of developing oral cancer, but these are not the only causes. As with other types of cancer that can develop in the body, any cancerous cells can mutate and travel through the body to areas where they didn’t originate. There are different stages of oral cancer as there are with other types of cancer. Oral cancer often begins in the throat and moves to the jaw and the cheeks of the mouth, impacting the teeth as well. A common sign that something might be wrong is loose teeth. The jawbone deteriorates from cancer and causes the teeth to loosen and sometimes fall out on their own. Several types of scans and tests can be used to determine the stage of cancer before a treatment plan is put in place. Men are more susceptible to oral cancer than women. It can sometimes impact younger to middle-aged adults more than those who are older.
