Some people might think that Christmas is the busiest day of the year because of spending time with family and friends. However, Thanksgiving is often known as the busiest day of the year for traveling. Many people leave home the day before Thanksgiving so that they don’t have to sit in traffic on the interstates. Airports are often the busiest the night before Thanksgiving and the day after the holiday as people are trying to get back home. Over 42 million people usually travel by car for the Thanksgiving holiday. This means that roads in each state are usually congested with people who simply want to get to their destinations whether it’s to see a relative or to reach a favorite vacation spot. There are about 4 million people who fly for Thanksgiving. Airports are often crowded, which means that flights are sometimes delayed with the backlog of people who are trying to board their planes and get from one area to another. Most people travel at least 10 miles away from home for Thanksgiving while many people travel 50 miles or more to celebrate the holiday since it’s usually an extended vacation time for students in school or college.
