Golden Details About “The Golden Girls”

One of the 1980s television shows that changed the way viewers saw older women was “The Golden Girls.” Even though there are no new episodes, you can still view reruns on various channels. Bea Arthur wasn’t considered lovable enough when producers were casting the show. However, the other actress who auditioned used the “F” word rather frequently, so the part went to Arthur. Betty White would play word games to pass the time during the day. Most people know that the ladies were older. However, Estelle Getty was actually a year younger than Dorothy on the show. The makeup department spent about 45 minutes making sure Getty looked like an older woman. Getty had a facelift over the summer after the first season, so the department had to spend even more time trying to make her look older than the other women in the show. Queen Elizabeth is noted to be a huge fan of the show. She is even mentioned in a few of the episodes. Even though there were four women in the home, there were only four chairs at the kitchen table. This was done to prevent one actress from having her back to the camera and to prevent everyone being too close together.
